1. Order of Business: election of Dan Orr to the ADM Exploration Foundation Board of Directors. Nomination by Curt Bowen, Motion passed unanimously.
|
|
|
|
2. Order of Business: The ADM Exploration Foundation Board of Directors carries a maximum of 9 board members according to the foundation charter. To date, with the election of Director Orr, the board consists of only four members, leaving five vacancies.
|
|
|
|
The board undertook a discussion of filling the remaining vacancies. Director Mikusch suggested that the board ensure any new directors share the vision of the foundation. Director Orr suggested writing job descriptions for specific board seats so that each new member brings some specific talent to the board. The board will consider creating specific directors’ chairs, such as archaeology and biology/science. Director Toorish agreed, and it was the sense of the board that the following chairs be created:

Additional chairs may be created in the future. |

Director Bowen suggested Professor Tom Iliffe for the Science/Marine Biology Chair, Professor Iliffe is a Doctor of Philosophy in Marine Biology at the University of Texas at Galveston. He has participated in many expeditions and has personally identified hundreds of new species of wildlife in caves around the world. Director Bowen has already approached Prof. Iliffe about the possibility of joining the ADM Board and will make a formal invitation shortly. |

3. Order of Business: Fundraising is critical to the future of the ADM Exploration Foundation. Director Orr identified several elements connected with raising funds from his experience with not-for-profit organizations:
- What will the foundation do with funding once it is received
- To successfully raise funds, there must be an emotional attachment
- What do contributors want from the foundation
- It is best to identify specific projects we intend to undertake

Director Orr suggested the foundation work to be listed on Charity Navigator to illustrate that the foundation is legitimate, which will help in fundraising.
|
|
|
|
Director Mikusch asked Director Orr discussed the possibility of the ADM Exploration Foundation and Diver’s Alert Network working more closely together. Director Orr suggested there might be an opportunity for a relationship with DAN based on DAN’s work with technical divers over the next year. |
